The oldest shoe type made compostable

Since the 70s, approximately 20 billion pairs of flip-flops have been sold world-wide. The majority of which is made out of cheap and harmful materials like PVC or EVA, causing huge damage to the environment when disposed.


With this huge environmental problem in mind, WEXLA developed the first fully compostable flip-flop in the world. Our inexpensive mass product "flip-flops" turn into a valuable biological resource.

Expertise

WEXLA was founded in April 2008 in Salzburg. Our mission is to develop healthy and environmentally friendly products based on intelligent design and ecological materials (=eco-intelligent products). The team consists of shoe and material specialists as well as design, marketing and sales experts and experienced craftsmen and technicians. Leading Wexla is Udo Weixelbaumer who has more than 25 years of experience in material science and design and is the customer contact for development projects.

But the know-how of Wexla is not only based upon the material. We have developed technical solutions for a production with zero-waste. We have an assemble-it-yourself program on certain products that enables us to manufacture ecological products with low transportation costs. Furthermore, our products are cradle2cradle, which means they are embedded within a sustainable product life-cycle.
